SOCCEROOS ESCAPE WITH A DRAW

Another sending off for Australia harmed their slim World Cup hopes again, with Tim Cahill already missing for the Socceroos. After Tim’s red card against Germany, the Aussies were once again reduced to 10 men when their biggest attacking threat, Harry Kewell, was sent off in the first half for stopping Jonathan Mensah’s shot on the line with his upper arm.

Gyan put the resulting penalty away in the 25th minute to tie it up. This after Brett Holman had given the Australians an 11th minute lead after Ghanaian keeper Richard Kingston spilt Mark Bresciano’s, rather tame, free-kick.

The second half started at a slower pace, with obviously Ghana being the more adventurous . . . as the half wore on though, absorbing some pressure, the Socceroos started to counter attack more, which made it a more entertaining game to watch.

After some late pressure from Ghana the game ended 1-1 and both nations live to fight another day.
